The ocean, filmed in Sandy Cove, Nova Scotia on June 28, 2013, at 7:11 am.
Camera: Sylvia Safdie

For the past several years I have spent hours observing moving waters in rivers, lakes, oceans and seas. This process has often guided my travel destinations. I have become captivated by the way these bodies of water disclose their secret anatomy, by the flux of their life force, by their continuous rhythms of movement and transformations and by the way they capture and reflect light.
What intrigued me about the waters in Sandy Cove and what prompted me to film them was because I felt that I was experiencing the grace of water’s “breath”.
“Sandy Cove, Nova Scotia; June 28, 2013 7:11AM and Sandy Cove, Nova Scotia 7:31AM are two studies of the Nova Scotia sea in which she (Safdie) presents a concentrated observation of the subtle voluminous materiality of its waters and the atmospheric qualities of mist, rain and fog. In so doing Safdie leads the viewer into a silent and contemplative experience with no beginning, middle or end – we are immersed in its voluminous waters, moving through it and thinking with it.” *
