Aley and Leaf Series
Each year a tree bears hundreds of leaves; from a distance they appear the same, yet each is unique; each bears its own particular markings.
“The tree develops slowly, almost imperceptibly; its changing qualities are most readily expressed through its leaves, in which both the cycle of the seasons and the successive change of generation are so clearly manifested. The Chinese character for ‘leaf’, yeh, emphasizes this essential quality of change that unites the organic and the human worlds; ‘tree’ at the bottom and the ‘grass’ radical at the top are joined by the character for ‘generations’. Leaf: the seasonal life and death of the tree.”
