NOTE: For the past several years I have spent hours observing moving waters in rivers, lakes, oceans and seas. This process has often guided my travels. I have become captivated by the way they disclose their secret anatomy, by their life force, by their continuous rhythms of movement and transformation and by the way they capture and reflect light.
I have returned several times to the same vantage point in Punta Zicatela, Oaxaca, Mexico, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. On each occasion I spent several days in the same spot observing and recording the Ocean at different times of day.
Chance occurs in nature – it is echoed by the chance and the unknown that occurs in the making of art. This is what is called improvisation. In Media Luna, I have abandoned myself to the to the life force of the ocean. Water, sand, light, currents and the forces of nature that shape them come together. By observing and recording what is in front of me I am permitting nature to create its own painting.
